Blue Morpho Butterfly of Costa Rica

Catching a glimpse of these most beautiful butterflies is one of the highlights of any Costa Rican trip.  The electric neon color of the Blue Morpho is almost mesmerizing as they flutter by oh-so-casually seemingly unaware of the excitement they create as they pass.

Many butterflies make their home in Costa Rica, in fact, the countries butterfly population makes up approximately 90% of all Central American butterfly species.

Costa Rica offers many opportunities for butterfly viewing in the wild plus there are several dedicated Butterfly Gardens.  Visitors to our North Pacific condo in Playas del Coco can enjoy El Bosque Nuevo (The New Forest) near Liberia or at Monkey Park near Tamarindo.

Rockin' the Nightlife in Playas del Coco

For a sleepy little beach town, the nightlife in Playas del Coco is second to none.  Visitors will find a selection of happening beach bars with live music, DJs spinning tunes to the disco beat, gambling, and happy hour drink specials along Coco's main tree-lined street.

Here's a quick run down of just some of the nightlife in Playas del Coco:

  • Coconutz - outdoor bar offering great burgers and a fun atmosphere
  • Lizard Lounge - pool table, tropical laid back feeling for the younger crowd
  • La Vida Loca - beach front bar with a pool table & ping pong
  • Coco Bay Casino - gambling fun
  • Flor de Itabo - more games of chance
  • Z Lounge - live music most weekends with no cover, slightly older crowd
...and many more venues that we haven't had the chance to visit yet!

Z Lounge
Just an FYI - local performances have included Canadian Downchild Blues Band and an amazing Beatles Tribute Band from San Jose known as Revolution.  Seriously, they were great and we were sober - if you ever get a chance, check them out ;)
