Liberia Airport Expansion

Liberia Airport Expansion: As the gateway to the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport is the perfect jumping-off point for your Costa Rican vacation.

Having just built a new terminal in 2012, Liberia Airport is already slated for another $10-million expansion, due to increased passenger traffic, and is set to be completed in 2017.

The Liberia Airport expansion will increase the size of both the baggage claim and waiting areas, plus there will be more space for offices and stores. On the commercial side of things, Liberia Airport in Guanacaste will be starting a cargo terminal, which will greatly benefit importers and exporters in the region.

Costa Rican Hideaway: Nosara

If you'd like to know more about Nosara, the popular surfing town on Costa Rica's Pacific Coast, here's a link to a great article by the New York Times, entitled: A BuzzFeed Founder's Costa Rican Hideaway.

Here are our favorite take-aways from this informative journalism piece:

"No new development is allowed in beachside conservation areas within about 200 yards of the ocean. There are no high-rise buildings, no fast-food restaurants, very few beach bars — there are not even chaise longues on the beach. It is, in effect, the anti-resort resort."

"Reaching Nosara remains a bit of a chore — it requires a bumpy two-hour trip across mostly dirt roads from the closest major airport, in Liberia. And do not rely on Google Maps — it will tell you to take a hazardous mountain-pass road. But in a way, that is just how everyone wants it to stay. Make it any easier, and Nosara, as it is today, will disappear."

The Secret Labyrinth of Santa Rosa

If you decide to make the one-hour trip from our brand new ocean view condo in Playas del Coco, GuanacasteCosta Rica, down to trendy Tamarindo, we've got a secret to tell you...

Besides the beautiful beach, abundance of shells and shopping, Tamarindo is also home to the biggest labyrinth in the world!  Who knew?!  Just 20-minutes from Tamarindo, La Senda Labyrinth (also known as the Tamarindo Labyrinth) is located in nearby Santa Rosa.

While you'll travel over a bumpy dirt road to get there, the labyrinth was built by Belgian owner, Griet Depypere, in response to the properties natural energy centers. Meandering along the almost 2-mile (3 km) path, visitors are invited to do nothing at all.  The labyrinth allows for quiet meditation as visitors simply soak up the sun and natural beauty of the area.

Backpacking in Costa Rica

Thinking of backpacking in Costa Rica?  If you pick Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport in Liberia as your destination, you'll find plenty of places to visit and activities to enjoy in and around the Pacific Coast.

Be sure to carry a lightweight day pack and whatever you do, do not leave your backpack unattended at anytime, anywhere, just to be safe ;)  While most Ticos (locals) are genuinely friendly, others view tourists as easy targets and the black market is alive and well in Costa Rica :(

If you're heading out to catch some waves near Nosara, one of Costa Rica's best surfing towns, be sure to bring along a decent micro fibre towel and a waterproof pouch to keep your valuables (including your passport, hotel key, cash etc.) with you at all times. (Both are available online from Outwood Sports.)  And don't forget to keep a copy of your passport - including a copy showing the entry stamp - in a safe place.

There are many youth hostels located near Arenal Volcano, La Fortuna, Monteverde Cloud Forest, Jaco, Manuel Antonio, Tamarindo and more.  Our condo in Playas del Coco is a great starting point or home base for exploring the Guanacaste region where you'll find scuba diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, wildlife viewing, parasailing, mountain biking, fishing and monkeys!!

Cheers!
