Playa Hermosa:
An 8 km drive north, Playa Hermosa is famous for it's black sand that sparkles with a touch of gold, which is rumored to provide healing properties. The calm waters of Playa Hermosa are popular for swimming, as well as scuba diving and snorkeling.

Playa Tamarindo:
About 1.5 hours south, this picturesque, white sand beach is seemingly endless! It's a perfect beach for walking, people watching and beachcombing. Activities available on Playa Tamarindo include surfing, sunset cruises and ATV tours. 

Playa Conchal:
About an hour south, you'll find Playa Conchal and the mega resorts of Costa Rica's Pacific Coast. It's perfect for surfers looking to ride the big waves. Plus the abundance of waves means a huge selection of beachcombing shells! Even though Playa Conchal is popular with surfers, it's also a great beach for swimming, snorkeling and deep sea fishing excursions.

Beaching it in Playas del Coco

One of the things we fell in love with in Playas del Coco is the range of beaches within a few minutes drive....


In downtown Coco, Playas del Coco (Coco Beach) offers a beautiful stretch of cocoa colored sand framed by lush rolling hills.  On a typical day, you'll see romantic couples walking, having a picnic, local Ticos on horseback, families having fun while beachcombing, and dive boats coming in from their underwater adventures.  There are a handful of bars and restaurants scattered along the beach.


Playa Panama offers a dark grey sand beach surrounded by lush tropical palms.  With picture perfect views of Bahia Culebra (Snake Bay), Playa Panama is the perfect location for beachcombing, swimming, and to while away a lazy Costa Rican afternoon.


Playa Hermosa offers a gorgeous black volcanic sand with sparkling gold flecks.   and with its sheltered location, Playa Hermosa is perfect for swimming and soaking up the Costa Rican sun.  Visitors and locals enjoy grabbing a cold one at a few local bars tucked away a block back from the beach.


The deep blue waters at Playa Ocotal give way to a smaller beach of light grey and brown sands.  With it's calm waters, Playa Ocotal offers great snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities.
