Even though Playas del Coco, Guanacaste, is a small beach town on the Pacific Coast, don't let that fool you into thinking there's nothing to do! There are tons of activities, shops and restaurants, along with beaches & an array of fun beach bars and nightclubs to keep you entertained.
But besides these attractions, Guanacaste is regularly home to celebrations of historic, civic and cultural in nature, all through out the year. Let's take a look at annual events in Guanacaste! #vivelaexperiencia
January:
- early - Fiesta de los Diablitos (Fiesta of the Little Devils!), spiritual
- 14 to 18 - Santa Cruz: Fiesta de Santa Cruz - rodeo, dancing, music, and local food
- 15 - Fiesta del Cristo de Esquipulas - dancing, fiestas & ox cart parades
- Last Weekend - Playas del Coco: Dias del Fiesta - cowboy rodeos, parades, fun & food
- School Holidays - children are off during their 'summer' holidays from the 2nd week in December through to the 2nd week in February
February:
- 1 to 6 - Nicoya Rodeo & Fiesta Patronal
- Last Weekend - Fiesta Civica de Liberia with fireworks, bullfighting and horse parades
- 23-26 - Envision Festival, a spiritual celebration/gathering/conference filled with yoga, meditation and enlightenment (NOT in Guanacaste, but well worth mentioning!)
March:
- 1 - Ash Wednesday - throughout Costa Rica: horse and cow parades; no-harm bull fighting
- 10-12 - Jungle Jam music festival, Jaco
- 12 - Dia de los Boyeros, parades of the cow herders
April:
- Holy Friday - Santa Cruz
- Semana Santa - Holy Week, alcohol sales are prohibited throughout this annual religious event
- 17 - Día de Juan Santamaría, celebrating the bravery of a young soldier defending Costa Rica
May:
- 1 - Día de los Trabajadores, Labor Day
- 15 - Dia de San Isidro Labrador, celebrations throughout Costa Rica
June:
- mid - Dia de los Padres, Fathers' Day
- 29 - Dia de San Pedro y San Pablo, religious celebration
July:
- mid - Playas del Coco: Fiesta de La Virgen del Mar - boat regatta & parade
- mid - public school 'winter' break, typically first 2 weeks in July

- 25 - Annexation Celebrations: 193rd Anniversary of the Annexation of Nicoya from Nicaragua with fun, food & fishing tournaments
